Day 127: The Break-Up

The Break-Up w/ Jennifer Aniston & Vince Vaughn

Poor Jennifer Aniston. She just can’t seem to win. Well, I don’t think having Vince Vaughn is winning either.

Anyways, break ups are always horrible. I don’t think there are any existing clean slates. I remember voluntarily crying myself to sleep alone in the dark. And that was in high school! Shit gets pretty depressing. Shit is especially even more depressing when it’s never on your own terms. Mind games come back again at this stage which makes the recovery even more difficult. I’m always a complete hot mess when it comes to love. I would be that girl that look like she hasn’t slept in days when her heart is broken. It never makes any sense how things ever end but they do. There are some relationships where I still don’t know why we ended, others are crystal clear. Was it for the better? Sure. Surely I wouldn’t be where I am today if those relationships had continued, but who’s to say. My own individual goals could differ from our relationship goals.

Emotions take such a toll on your mind when you’re ending a relationship. It’s all you think about whether you like it or not. We find things/people to distract ourselves but in the very end, it still hurts like hell. Playing the bitch doesn’t work either, trust me.

But sometime’s you just gotta prevail and not surrender in doing what’s right for yourself, even if it means forsaking a bit of your happiness in the moment.

Gary: I’m just saying we shouldn’t wait so long the next time before we…
Brooke: Yeah.
Gary: Catch up.
Brooke: We have a lot more to talk about.
Gary: Yeah.
Brooke: So.
Gary: Be good.
Brooke: Okay.
Gary: Bye.
Brooke: Bye.

Day 70: Swingers

Swingers w/ these guys

Must remember that even the toughest of guys have feelings too. An interesting take on the male reaction to severe heartache. It must suck being a guy because the rules of attraction often vary and often friends vary in reaction. Vince Vaughn managed to look attractive despite being a bit chauvanistic and played the wingman fairly decent. Yet, we can all somehow relate to Jon Faverau’s character lack of faith in the love game and how being yourself in public is rather difficult. I don’t care what anyone says, being yourself to attract someone is hard.

It’s the same deal back in elementary school. You pick the coolest Valentine’s Day card to pass out so the boys will come running. The only difference is that back in elementary school, we all won. Now, to even get a decent “hey,” I have to try and work with my personality. Ugh, the horror.

Day 64: She’s All That

She's All That w/ FPJ & RLC

Now I had my fair share of 90’s heartthrob mega crushes, the usual suspects – Leo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake and of course, Freddie Prinze Jr. If you didn’t think that FPJ wasn’t the bane of existence for many rom-coms, you’re clearly mistaken.

Anyways, sometimes we need to allow others to help us change. It’s something of a conflicting issue for many because hell, we’re pretty damn satisfied with ourselves. I’m pretty damn satisfied with myself. But it certainly doesn’t  hurt to change a little for the better…right?

On some real shit – my insecurities sometimes overplay and sometimes overpower my own ability to recognize that I need to cut certain behaviors and/or attitudes. It takes someone who really cares about you to make you realize said bad behavior. After all, having bad attributes doesn’t makes you a bad ass by any means. Continue reading

Day 60: Annie Hall

Annie Hall w/ Woody Allen & Diane Keaton

We’re delivered a harsh truth: some things just don’t work out. Sometimes, the reality is that we’re not fundamentally made for each other. It’s like swallowing down a dry pill, you know exactly what’s happening but it’s not going down easy. It’s a fragile truth I’ve been slowly accepting of my own relationships and as I get older, sometimes it’s the most logical argument. Risen from platonic feelings, it’s the hardest because you can’t blame/hate on anyone. No matter how we try to overanalyze each phase of the relationship, there’s not much to do once we both reached that conclusion. Better than saying at least he’s not into you, you’re just both not into each other. Continue reading

Day 26: Breaking Upwards

Breaking Upwards w/ Zoe Jones & Daryl Wein

Breaking Upwards is an indie rom-com set to the background of New York City following the eventual break up of 20-somethings. Ahhh, music to my ears. Obviously relatable. Obviously, snarky. We can focus on the detrimental factors to this relationship, but I’d like to really focus on the character Zoe. Here’s some context to the film, it’s actually the real story, more or less, of the leading couple when they decided to break up for a while. Zoe, played by Zoe Lister Jones, is overtly fucked up in the most narrowest sense. She’s all woman, hear me roar. She definitely played one too many Beyonce albums. Again, some background to her fuckery. Zoe’s mom is single and has difficulty pursuing stable relationships. Therefore, this in essence influenced Zoe’s relationships with men. Zoe’s unstable. Zoe’s unstable with men. Zoe’s unstable with her relationship to Daryl. Get it? Got it? Good. Continue reading

Day 21: High Fidelity

High Fidelity w/ Bad Hair Cusack

John Cusack. Bad hair. Bad hair throughout the entire movie. Seriously.

Day 8: 500 Days of Summer

It’s been said, many times, many ways – I’ve seen 500 Days of Summer at least 500 times. I’m absolutely completely in love with this movie, even at my most bitterest moments. Since maturing from my Cera obsession, I’ve quickly grown strongly fond of Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  I’ve seen him in person and he’s such a dreamboat. He’s said to be the “Smart Girl’s Hottie.” I’d bite. Of course, this film also features Zooey Deschanel,  and well, who doesn’t love her?

There’s something magical about nabbing the person you want. Yes, I said magical. Especially if you’ve been admiring from a distance. A little pep in your step, the good glow. Hell, even waking up in the morning feels better.  But, let’s skip the mush and get down to the nitty gritty. Unless you missed it, Summer clearly says she wants something casual. Tom agrees with her. Do we believe it? Nope. Does he believe it? Nope. Maybe we’d save ourselves a lot of pain if we were just honest with ourselves in the beginning. Continue reading
